BODIES IN TROUBLE! | INFEMS & ASYL DER KUNSTSTIFTUNG AT HAUS KUNST MITTE, BERLIN
Exhibition Opening | Thursdsay 8th September 2022
Exhibition Dates | 9th September 2022 – 15th January 2023
Haus Kunst, Heidestraße 54, 10557 Berlin, Germany
In our present time, all bodies are in trouble both ideologically and physically. Human-made climate change, the predation of nature, war, famine, pandemics, natural disasters and technological change have imperilled us. The body is the primary site where social and political power is exercised. A surface onto which concepts of desire, gender, and race are inscribed.
Through film, painting, prints, and text, BODIES IN TROUBLE! explores fragmented visceral bodies that bleed and breathe and lure and repel; endangered bodies fleeing from dystopian worlds that must renegotiate their autonomy, escaping abuse and violence. There are inappropriate, transgressive bodies who refuse to behave and play nice. Performing bodies, reliving historical trauma in order to emerge hopeful for the future.
The exhibition’s ten artists – five InFems and five Berlin-based women artists – represent a variety of social groups, differing in age, class, cultural origin, ethnicity and sexual orientation. All treat the human body as a starting point for their artistic research, questioning sociocultural ideals around body normativity. The issues they address are urgent: regulations placed on female bodies (abortion debates, sex workers’ rights); racism and domestic violence (on the rise throughout Covid); social attitudes to menstruation and ageing. Still, they avoid despair. Orchestrating their own rescue, they map out opportunities for resilience, emancipation and empowerment.
Curated by Asyl der Kunst Stiftung curator, CEO and art historian Dr. Anna Havemann.

DOMINADO
In culture, film and art, sexuality tends to be represented through the view of the hetreosexual male gaze. ‘Dominado’ is a two person show between Thiago Gadelha and Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf which explores the theme from their respective culturally ‘non-dominant’ points of view.
In this exhibition the artists take control of their own narrative, as the protagonists of their own sexuality rather than being the objects of someone else's gaze.

A Hybrid Exhibition
lovely to see my work was mentioned in this article by aesthetia magazine about the discerning eye exhibition.
"Another selected photographer is Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf, who explores the “conflicted nature of our societal attitudes towards female sexuality.” Folds of Desire depicts fragmented figures holding broken mirrors up to the camera. As white fabric cascades across the frame, viewers might be reminded of classical painting, or, equally, work by Francesca Woodman, Dora Maar and Ana Mendieta "

InFems art collective presents it's first ever UK exhibition, ‘No Reserve’ at Leicester Contemporary. Taking its cue from the adrenalin-fuelled atmosphere of the gallery site’s former life as an auction house, No Reserve is about not holding back, about the limitless, the performative and the theatrical, about extravagant gestures and trickster behaviour. It showcases works across media including figurative paintings, film, workson paper, and sculpture.

InFems - Intersectional Feminist Art Collective comes to Lisbon featuring Portugese artist Rita GT and Angolan-Dutch artist Lola Keyezua @ PADA with MOVART
InFems Art Collective presents its inaugural exhibition ‘Biting Back and Enjoying the Taste’ at PADA, an artist-led, non-profit arts organisation in Lisbon’s South Bay in collaboration with MOVART.
Showcasing works across media (including representations of figurative paintings, a large work on paper, a video, photographs, and ceramics), InFems wants to provoke discussions in Portugal about the role of intersectional feminism and the issues facing women today. Biting Back and Enjoying the Taste explores subjects like the plight of refugees, the fragmented female nude, subversive behaviour – women ‘behaving badly’, the female gaze, colonialism, and female sexuality.
