Augmented Reality Art Gallery app

We asked Powered by Moola to use their Flutter App Development skills to investigate how our clients could virtually try art in their homes, which lead them to develop our Augmented Reality (AR) App.

Augmented Reality

We wanted to explore ways to engage with and grow our audience via a view in a room app utilising Augmented Reality, this would provide our clients with a tool enabling them to view the range of art that we have in our online shop in their own homes.

The App allows you to see the work in your own home, on your own wall, it correctly shows the scale of the artwork and how it would look alongside a collection or just if it worked in the room with the existing colours and accent furnishings.

Simple to Use App

Our brief to Tom & Stuart Atkinson from PoweredbyMoola.com was to provide us with a simple to use app available on iOS, Android and tablet devices. We wanted the App for the Zebra One Gallery Online Shop ” A Try Before You Buy ” tool, it gives a client piece of mind that the piece works on the wall in the room they were thinking of buying for. The App allows the work to be seen from all angles.

Tom snd Stuart said “In truth we were keen to develop an augmented reality app using Flutter’s ARCore platform. Augmented reality adds an element of excitement to software development that goes beyond the normal day to day. We are seeing more and more Augmented Reality implementations with virtual try on of glasses, footwear and clothing. Developing an Augmented Reality solution for Zebra One Art Gallery was an opportunity too good to miss, and one which could directly benefit consumers from the UK’s 1,500 commercial art galleries.

Development

The app was developed in Flutter using ARCore which is a Google product that they describe in their own words here:

ARCore is Google’s platform for building augmented reality experiences. Using different APIs, ARCore enables your phone to sense its environment, understand the world and interact with information. Some of the APIs are available across Android and iOS to enable shared AR experiences. ARCore uses three key capabilities to integrate virtual content with the real world as seen through your phone’s camera: Motion tracking allows the phone to understand and track its position relative to the world.

Environmental Understanding

Discover Google developers Environmental understanding allows the phone to detect the size and location of all types of surfaces: horizontal, vertical, and angled surfaces like the ground, a coffee table, or walls. Light estimation allows the phone to estimate the environment’s current lighting conditions. Google Develops

For us at Zebra One Gallery, our augmented reality journey is just beginning as we plan to develop the app further including AI components and framing to advise collectors as they try various works of art in their homes.
