International Women’s Day March 8-9th A powerful exhibition by Lorien Haynes to help spread awareness about and end domestic violence against women

Pieces of a Woman in addition The exhibition then moved to Burgh House from 10 – 14 March. A percentage of proceeds were donated to Refuge, aiding domestic abuse survivors as well as Annie Lennox’s global NPO, The Circle, championing women’s rights.
A Burgh House spokesperson adds: “We are proud supporters of female artists, with a strong presence of women’s art in our collection. And we are passionate about amplifying the voices of those that might not be heard. “So we are proud to be working with The Circle, Refuge, Lorien and Zebra One on this important campaign.”

Founded by singer-songwriter and activist Annie Lennox, The Circle is a unique organisation which brings Global Feminists together to fight for a fairer world for women and girls across the world. A space for creative ideas, connections, and the opportunity to make change. which supports UK domestic abuse survivors.

Refuge

Louise Firth, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Refuge says: “Empowering women is something we at Refuge aspire to do every day of the year and we are grateful for events like these that raise vital funds for Refuge and allow us to continue our work supporting survivors of domestic abuse.”



Awareness

Lorien a passionate feminist and a survivor of sexual abuse explains: “Most women I know are survivors of some form of sexual violence, so it feels crucial at this time to be raising as much awareness as we can, especially, when during the pandemic, sexual and domestic violence figures have gone through the roof – we have to draw attention to the issue and I am very happy to be donating a percentage of every piece sold.”

Punched 

Sadie Frost and Donna Air take to the stage for charity play raising awareness of domestic abuse

Written by Lorien Haynes, Punched is a dramatisation of women’s experiences of domestic and sexual violence, created to ‘give voice to survivors and highlight the scale of abuse. 

It is directed by Jude Kelly, and performers include Priyanga Burford, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Issy Knopfler and spoken-word poet Miss Yankey.
