COCKTAILS WITH MARILYN AT THE LANGHAM
It was 7pm, the evening of Thursday 20th February 2014. Regent’s Street bustling with commuters, late night shoppers and socialites. Meanwhile in Langham Place preparations for an exclusive exhibit for one night only of cocktails with Marilyn, came to light. Their value like gold dust, unavailable in the UK except through Zebra One Gallery. Paparazzi gathered in their strength desperate to see who was going to show for such an occasion. The Langham in all it’s elegance and splendour did us proud. A fine residence for such an iconic beauty such as Marilyn Monroe. The signature cocktails flowed, canapé’s that ooozed talent in themselves, the art deco excellence of Palm Court, it really was an evening to gaze upon. With a guest list offered only to those in the know, the atmosphere was relaxed, enchanting, and unique. Cheeky, glamorous, shy, expressive, we all have our own emotional relationship with Marilyn. The images displayed on easel’s created an even closer experience for the viewer. A treat to be so intimate in an ambiance that made you feel as though Marilyn herself could enter the room at any given time.
This one night event was organised by the highly acclaimed rock n roll Miss Gabrielle du Plooyfrom Zebra One Gallery. This little Hampstead gallery is top of everyone’s list and the talk of the town. You name it, they’ve got it. Specialising in rock n roll and rare imagery by Phillip Townsend, Mick Rock, Norman Parkinson, Helmut Newton to name a small few, they have a strong collection. This rock duo Gabrielle du Plooy and Rachel Howlett who run the gallery together are constantly bringing in new pieces so check them out.
The evening was graced by some exciting VIP guests. I’m not going to name them all, you can enjoy their visual wonder in my photographs below. I personally enjoyed my evening with guests such as the delightful Shirley Eaton. A pleasure to meet the beautiful Bond girl from Goldfinger. Shirley was wearing an impressive diamond necklace by Boodles for the special occasion at The Langham. Head turner Kimberley Garner radiantly wore a red dress by Ralph Lauren that any girl would dream about (and Kimberley’s unbelieveable figure to go in it!). She looked just the part in the Monroe environment. Classic beauty Hayley Hasslehoff, this exquisite figurine with her 1950’s identity provided a Monroe perfume to the affair. Her skin as clear as porcelain, this girl simply dazzled! The room alive with celebrity buzz, ravishing art deco echo’s and eager buyers for these phenomenal works of art, I can honestly say it was a night to remember. Thank you Zebra One Gallery and The Langham. You delivered, and we loved it.
