CB Hoyo (b. 1995, Havana) is a Cuban-born, self-taught contemporary artist whose text-driven works combine humour, satire and social commentary on the art world itself.
Hoyo grew up between Cuba and the Dominican Republic before relocating to Europe in 2013. Entirely self-taught and dyslexic, he began painting as a child and now works across text-based paintings, acrylic and mixed media, neon, print, installation, sound, performance and generative systems.
His best-known series is "Fakes", in which he reinterprets canonical masterpieces by Picasso, Warhol, Basquiat and Munch, overlaying them with witty, provocative text — his version of Warhol's 'Red Jackie' reads "This Warhol was not made by Warhol." Through these works he questions authorship, authenticity and monetary value in an era of fake news and social media.
He gained early prominence via Instagram and has since exhibited across Europe, the US and Asia, with work held in collections on six continents. Artnet has named him among the ten rising stars of street art.
