About This Work
American model Ivy Nicholson is photographed wearing a raincoat and umbrella during a New York photoshoot for American Vogue in 1957. Nicholson blazed through 1950s Europe as a top fashion model before becoming one of the first "superstars" in Andy Warhol's Factory in the 1960s.
About the Artist
Sir Norman Parkinson (1913–1990) was a British portrait and fashion photographer whose four-decade career transformed the aesthetic of 20th-century magazine work. Shooting for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Town & Country, he took models out of the studio into landscapes, streets and factories — humanising fashion photography and paving the way for the modern editorial image.
