About This Work

A model smiles as she is photographed wearing a knotted pearl necklace and a Legroux Soeurs' hat for a 1952 Vogue shoot. The Legroux Sisters were some of the most sought-after hat designers in Paris from La Belle Epoque through the 1950s, with their salon located just up the street from Chanel.

About the Artist

Sir Norman Parkinson (1913–1990) was a British portrait and fashion photographer whose four-decade career transformed the aesthetic of 20th-century magazine work. Shooting for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Town & Country, he took models out of the studio into landscapes, streets and factories — humanising fashion photography and paving the way for the modern editorial image.
