About This Work

Jean Patchett is photographed wearing a Jean Dessès evening gown while draped over a lime green sofa for an American Vogue magazine spread in April, 1950. A leading model of the late 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, Patchett appeared on over 40 magazine covers, representing brands like Berdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel, and Revlon.

About the Artist

Sir Norman Parkinson (1913–1990) was a British portrait and fashion photographer whose four-decade career transformed the aesthetic of 20th-century magazine work. Shooting for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Town & Country, he took models out of the studio into landscapes, streets and factories — humanising fashion photography and paving the way for the modern editorial image.
