About This Work
The Beatles are photographed at the President Hotel in London on September 12, 1963. Known as 'the kebab shot', Parkinson agreed to the assignment to work with the new band so his son, Simon, could meet them.
About the Artist
Sir Norman Parkinson (1913–1990) was a British portrait and fashion photographer whose four-decade career transformed the aesthetic of 20th-century magazine work. Shooting for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Town & Country, he took models out of the studio into landscapes, streets and factories — humanising fashion photography and paving the way for the modern editorial image.
