Norman Parkinson captures models Morty Batten and Virginia Wynn Thomas in a loving gondola scene in the canals of Venice, Italy, during a photoshoot for an advertisement in the March 1960 issue of British Vogue. The model is dressed in a ballerina-silhouette Polly Peck dress made from Samuel Courtauld fabric.
About the Artist
Sir Norman Parkinson (1913–1990) was a British portrait and fashion photographer whose four-decade career transformed the aesthetic of 20th-century magazine work. Shooting for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Town & Country, he took models out of the studio into landscapes, streets and factories — humanising fashion photography and paving the way for the modern editorial image.
