About This Work

American model Jerry Hall is photographed embracing Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, during a shoot for Norman Parkinson's exhibition at London's National Portrait Gallery in July of 1981. The pair were together at the time and went on to share four children.

About the Artist

Sir Norman Parkinson (1913–1990) was a British portrait and fashion photographer whose four-decade career transformed the aesthetic of 20th-century magazine work. Shooting for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Town & Country, he took models out of the studio into landscapes, streets and factories — humanising fashion photography and paving the way for the modern editorial image.
